1–3 Low (ghost town) 4–5 Moderate 6–7 Busy 8–10 Peak (avoid)

Best time to visit Florida theme parks in 2026

The three lowest-crowd windows of 2026 are: the second + third weeks of January (post-marathon weekend, before Presidents' Day), the first two weeks of February (excluding Presidents' Day), and the last week of August through mid-September (after kids are back in school, before Halloween events ramp up).

The three highest-crowd windows to avoid: Christmas week through New Year's, Spring Break (mid-March through Easter), and Thanksgiving week. Magic Kingdom routinely hits 10/10 maelstrom levels these weeks and Lightning Lane lines are visible from outer space.

Below is the month-by-month breakdown with the BEST and WORST week for each month, plus the factors driving each month's predictions. Pair this with our trip planner to lock in your specific dates against ticket prices.

Month-by-month crowd calendar 2026

January 4/10

RunDisney marathon weekend (early Jan) is a HUGE spike — most racers + spectators take park days too. After marathon weekend through MLK weekend = the calmest weekday park experience all year.

Best week: Jan 11–17

Worst week: Jan 4–10 (marathon)

February 4/10

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts (mid-Jan through mid-Feb) drives EPCOT crowds but other parks stay calm. Presidents' Day weekend (mid-month) spikes all 4 Disney parks for 3 days.

Best week: Feb 1–7

Worst week: Feb 15–21 (Presidents)

March 7/10

Spring Break season kicks in mid-March and runs through Easter. EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival opens early March, drawing weekend locals. Mardi Gras at Universal Studios runs Feb–Apr.

Best week: Mar 1–7

Worst week: Mar 22–28 (peak break)

April 7/10

Easter falls Apr 5, 2026 — Easter week is the absolute peak of Spring Break. After Easter, crowds drop fast through the rest of April. Late April = sneaky-good window before summer.

Best week: Apr 19–25

Worst week: Apr 5–11 (Easter)

May 5/10

The "shoulder month" — school's still in, families plan around Mother's Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend caps the month. Florida heat starts to bite (mid-80s). EPCOT festival closes early-May.

Best week: May 4–10

Worst week: May 24–30 (Memorial Day)

June 7/10

Summer crowds arrive in force the week after Memorial Day and only intensify. Daily afternoon thunderstorms become the rhythm. Universal's Halloween Horror Nights tickets go on sale (drives early planning).

Best week: Jun 1–7

Worst week: Jun 15–21

July 8/10

Independence Day week is one of the busiest of the year. The whole month runs hot AND crowded. Smart families flip the day plan: morning park, afternoon pool/hotel during the worst heat + storms.

Best week: Jul 27 – Aug 2

Worst week: Jun 28 – Jul 4 (4th of July)

August 5/10

Crowds drop fast starting mid-month as Florida + Southeast schools return. By the last week, parks feel almost empty on weekdays. Halloween Horror Nights and Mickey's Not-So-Scary kick off late month.

Best week: Aug 24–30

Worst week: Aug 3–9

September 3/10

The underrated best month of the year. Lowest crowds outside of January's mid-weeks. Hurricane season is real (have travel insurance) and afternoons are hot. Mickey's Not-So-Scary nights add charm without daytime spikes.

Best week: Sept 7–13

Worst week: Sept 21–27 (local weekend uptick)

October 6/10

Halloween events drive evening crowds Thu–Sun. Daytime parks stay manageable until the last 10 days when Halloween Horror Nights peaks. Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day (Oct 12) drives a long-weekend spike.

Best week: Oct 5–11

Worst week: Oct 26 – Nov 1 (Halloween)

November 6/10

EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival peaks. Veterans Day weekend (Nov 7–11 in 2026 because Nov 11 is a Wednesday) drives a spike. Thanksgiving week is one of the biggest of the year — avoid unless you're committed.

Best week: Nov 1–7

Worst week: Nov 22–28 (Thanksgiving)

December 9/10

Holiday season at the parks is magical AND brutal. Dec 1–14 is actually manageable + has all the decor. Dec 18 onward is full peak — Christmas week through New Year's hits 10/10 most days. Plan around this, not into it.

Best week: Dec 1–7

Worst week: Dec 27 – Jan 2 (Xmas/NYE)

What drives Florida theme park crowds

Crowd predictions aren't magic — they come from a small set of repeating factors. Knowing these lets you predict any week of any year (this calendar updates annually but the patterns repeat).

1. School breaks (the biggest factor)

Spring Break weeks (varies by district, mostly Mar 15 – Apr 12), summer (Jun–Aug), Thanksgiving week, Christmas/New Year. When kids are out of school nationally, Orlando is packed.

2. National holidays + 3-day weekends

MLK, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving. Add Friday–Monday for all of these.

3. Disney + Universal special events

RunDisney marathon weekends, EPCOT festivals, Mickey's Not-So-Scary, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, Halloween Horror Nights — each spikes the host park 30–60%.

4. Weather (Florida-specific)

Hurricane season (Jun–Nov) deters some visitors but ALSO creates last-minute deals. Cold snaps in Jan/Feb (rare but happen) keep crowds lower than the calendar predicts.

5. Convention + cheer season

March–April + November bring cheerleading + dance competitions to ESPN Wide World of Sports — overflow fills MK + HS. Same with marching band season.

6. Florida resident promotions

Disney + Universal periodically offer Florida-resident-only ticket deals. When announced, expect a 1–2 week local spike at announced participating parks.

How to use this calendar to plan

Three-step process:

  1. Pick your month based on weather + flexibility. If you can travel any week of any month, January 11–17 or September 7–13 are the absolute best.
  2. Within your month, target the BEST WEEK above and AVOID the WORST WEEK. The difference is often 30+ minutes per Lightning Lane ride.
  3. Lock prices early. Hotel + ticket prices follow crowd predictions — the calmer the week, the lower the prices. Use our trip planner to model your specific dates and party size against current rates.

Off-peak weeks also mean steeper ticket discounts via third-party authorized resellers. Check Undercover Tourist ticket prices for your chosen dates — they often beat Disney/Universal direct gate prices by $20–80 per ticket, especially during the low-crowd windows on this calendar.

Crowd calendar FAQ

How accurate is this calendar?

Predictions are based on repeating annual patterns (school calendars, holidays, official Disney/Universal events) and historical wait-time data. Specific day predictions can shift ±1–2 levels based on weather, Disney announcement timing, and unforeseen events. The MONTHLY shape is highly reliable; the daily shape is directional.

Is the calendar updated for 2026?

Yes — this version reflects 2026 school calendars, holiday dates (Easter is Apr 5, 2026), and the announced Disney + Universal event schedule. We refresh annually each November for the upcoming year.

Does this work for all Florida parks?

The monthly shape applies to all major Florida theme parks — Disney World (all 4 parks), Universal Orlando (Studios + Islands + Epic Universe + Volcano Bay), SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa, LEGOLAND Florida, and the water parks. Park-by-park nuances are in the table above.

What's the single best day to go to Magic Kingdom?

A Tuesday or Wednesday during the second or third week of January, after marathon weekend and before Presidents' Day. That's typically the lowest-crowd window an MK visitor will ever experience.

Should I avoid Florida in hurricane season?

Not necessarily — Sep–Oct can be magical with off-peak crowds AND lower prices. Get a refundable hotel booking + trip insurance. We've taken many September trips that were calm and dry; we've also had one trip rescheduled because of a hurricane warning. The math usually still favors going.

Why don't you have specific 1–10 numbers for every day?

Specific daily numbers create false precision. Daily wait times depend on weather + Disney's last-minute capacity decisions + ride downtime — variables no calendar can predict. We give you the monthly shape + best/worst weeks because that's what's actually predictable and actionable.
