Disney on-property vs off-property — what's the actual premium?

A Disney Value resort is $150–$250/night. A Moderate is $250–$400. A Deluxe is $500+. Off-property comparable hotels run $90–$180/night. The premium varies wildly by tier and season. This calculator shows the real dollar difference for your specific trip, plus a checklist of on-property perks to weigh against the cost.

Value tier: Disney's budget on-property hotels. Pool, theming, transportation included.
A typical week, no major holidays.
Number of days you'll be inside a Disney park (drives the convenience math).

The math behind the verdict

The pure dollar math compares Disney on-property rates against your chosen off-property tier. But on-property includes things off-property doesn't, so the real decision needs a convenience adjustment.

2026 Disney on-property nightly rate estimates (mid season):

  • Value: ~$200/night
  • Moderate: ~$340/night
  • Deluxe: ~$650/night
  • Deluxe Villa (DVC studio): ~$550/night

Rates scale up 30–50% in peak/holiday seasons and down 15–25% in off-peak.

The on-property value-adds we credit:

  • Early Park Entry: 30 minutes early at all parks. Worth ~$15/day if you'd otherwise pay for headliner skip-the-line.
  • Free transportation: Buses to all parks + Skyliner/monorail at select resorts. Eliminates rental car for many guests (~$50-80/day savings).
  • On-property convenience: Hop-back-for-naps factor, no parking hassle (~$30/day saved), package delivery to room, dining reservation priority. Roughly ~$25/day in time saved.
  • Theming: Subjective — the "feels like vacation from the airport on" factor. Some guests rate this priceless, others don't care.

The verdict logic:

  • On-property wins: if the net premium per night (after convenience credits) is under ~$50
  • Off-property wins: if the net premium per night is over ~$100
  • Close call: if it's in between — decide on theming preference

Pricing is 2026 estimates based on Disney's published rates. Actual prices vary by date, view, room type, and DVC point pricing — check Disney.com or Expedia for your dates. Off-property estimates assume a comparable-quality hotel/rental in Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee, or near Disney Springs.
